O'Grady's parents have been Jim O'Grady who is a financial advisor, and Jan O'Grady. Her parents raised her in Wheaton (Illinois) where she completed her studies in 1981 at the North High School in Wheaton. The model appeared in commercials for a while before relocating to Los Angeles. Her first assignment was as a model for Montgomery Ward. She also was a part of several commercials.
